Red Cloister Art Centre

The art center, located at the edge of the Forêt de Soignes in an old priory, explores the relationship between writings and images in exhibits by contemporary Belgian and foreign artists.

The Red Cloister Art Center expositions have a central directive, to make known what text and image can be recognized as art and graphics. This theme translates into other areas such as illustrators of children’s books  and authors of comic strips. To this direction comes three complimentary areas : (1) the recognition of Belgian artists  or  Belgian artistic movements which  form the basis of researched retrospectives, (2) the promotion of contemporary creations  via special awards , (le Prix Découverte [the discovery prize]  or  bi-annual competitions that promote artistic talents (3) finally, the discovery of foreign nationalistic  contributions and collaborations with organizations such as Europalia.
