This year, we’re kicking off the Kora Days on 15th May with a film that delves into the history of the kora, following in the footsteps of the master, Ballaké Sissoko. Ballaké Sissoko, Kora Tales is a short but powerful documentary that explores the origins of this legendary instrument. After the screening, we’ll have the pleasure of chatting with Lucy Duran, producer and musicologist, who worked on the film and is also behind the iconic album New Ancient Strings, recorded with the legends Toumani Diabaté and Ballaké Sissoko. Lucy Duran is a true expert on the kora and its history, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to open the festival with this beautiful project. If you’re unfamiliar with the kora, this is the perfect opportunity to discover it, and we’re confident you’ll be eager to explore the rest of the programme afterwards!
