The first evening of performances in 2025 bridges between two highlights of the season at Bozar. While the autumn was all about collaboration, the community and drawing inspiration from one another in the act of artistic creation, the new year opens with a dialogue between images and history, and what they make us perceive.
With the iconic solos of two American performance artists, Bryana Fritz and Daniel Linehan, presented as a double bill, this evening is a conversation of bodies and a polyphony of voices. Created in 2007, ‘Not About Everything’ is undoubtedly Daniel Linehan’s piece that is most etched on people’s minds, as it truly reflects the necessity of being, in the purest sense of the term. The constant centrifugal movement of the body, combined with words, is a form of breathing that casts off the weight of what is projected onto us. For her part, Bryana Fritz’s ‘Submission Submission’ is a gallery of portraits that play on her polymorphous skills. The martyred saints she brings to life within her emerge as precipitous, visceral, grotesque gestures that question our own representation of things.
