With an idiosyncratic and adventurous approach, Graindelavoix always uncovers new musical dimensions, both of well-known and lesser-known works. This time the ensemble sets its sights on Guillaume de Machaut’s masterful Messe de Nostre Dame. As the first complete setting of a mass by a single composer, the piece is considered a milestone in music history. Together with pianist Jan Michiels, Graindelavoix brings the medieval work into dialogue with music by Bach as well as modern repertoire: from Ligeti and Xenakis to Kurtág’s exceptionally intense miniatures. All this takes place in the unique setting of the Horta Hall. The singers of Graindelavoix move through the space and make centuries of music move around you.
