J’ai tiré sur Andy Warhol - Scum Manifesto” by Ovidie

  • Events

In the presence of the director.
On June 3, 1968, a year after the publication of her Scum Manifesto, a misandrist pamphlet, Valerie Solanas went to Andy Warhol’s Factory and shot him three times. What drove Solanas to attempt to assassinate Warhol? In this documentary, filmmaker Ovidie (Eloïse Delsart) explores Solanas’s violence-ridden life, revealing a radical feminist prose.
Ovidie will personally introduce her film at Bozar. This documentary is part of Our Burning World, a series that addresses social, political, ecological, and gender issues through screenings and lectures. Additionally, as part of the Love is Louder exhibition, Ovidie will be at Bozar for a Meet the Thinkers event.
Born in 1980, Ovidie is a prolific director and author. With a PhD in Literature and Film Studies, she specializes in intimate subjects. After exploring feminist pornography in the 2000s, she has directed several documentaries and TV and radio dramas, including Là où les putains n’existent pas (2018, Amnesty International Award for Best Documentary) and more recently Des gens bien ordinaires (2023, Emmy Award for Best Miniseries).
J’ai tiré sur Andy Warhol - Scum Manifesto” will be followed by a discussion with the female director, accompanied by her friend, director Tancrède Ramonet (Ni Dieu ni maître, une histoire de l’anarchisme). We will explore various questions regarding the connections between artistic rebellion and political ideology. We will also delve into the links between feminism and anarchism in contemporary struggles. The conversation will last about an hour after the screening.
This event is organised by Bruxelles Laïque and Bozar.
