Seeing Synaesthesia is a collaboration between renowned jazz pianist James Francies and audiovisual artist Ben Heim. The work explores synaesthesia, a phenomenon that Francies himself has experienced: he sees colours when he hears music. The collaboration began when the two artists recorded an improvisation using an audio painting simulation developed by Heim. They then mapped the colours of Francies’ synaesthesia and created an audio painting. The work serves as a visual representation of what goes on in Francies’ mind as he experiments with and plays music.?
