In Indian classical music, jugalbandi is a duet between solo instruments. The concept is translated as “entwined twins”. In the eponymous project Jugalbandi, two specialists in their field confront each other, one from the North Indian musical tradition and the other from the south. Ambi Subramaniam has followed in his father’s footsteps as a violinist, helping to set up a successful educational project in India to introduce music lessons in schools. Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya is at least equally inspiring, but as a guitarist and instrument maker. He plays an Indian slide guitar, a variant built in the 1940s out of the original Haitian version, but he has also patented his own ‘new’ instruments. In short: two enterprising musicians who will surpass all your expectations.
