London Symphony Orchestra, Pappano & Cho

Chopin, Shostakovich & Beethoven

Is it possible to make the most iconic opening notes in classical repertoire sound new? The renowned conductor Antonio Pappano is delighted to take on the challenge. With the London Symphony Orchestra, he presents the drama, tension and exuberance of Beethoven’s Fifth, the Fate Symphony. When Shostakovich started composing his Ninth Symphony, he had Beethoven’s Ninth at the back of his mind: musical baggage that Shostakovich dealt with in a highly original way. The result was a succinct, joyful work celebrating the end of the Second World War and victory over Germany, but in which sarcasm and ironic touches are never far away. The rising star Seong-Jin Cho contributes pure lyricism in Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto.?
