KBR reopens its museum on May 23, 2025, with a festive weekend packed with activities and an innovative musical experience. Visitors will be immersed in the world of medieval music and culture, with a programme that is both informative and interactive.
Guided tours in the renovated KBR museum will acquaint visitors with the new musical experience focused on polyphony and the art of multiple voices. They will experience how music is intertwined with the manuscripts of the dukes of Burgundy and how sound brings the room to life.
Led by Baptiste Vaes the Brussels city choir performs Brussels’ Voices’ a concert inspired by ancient polyphonic traditions. For those who would like to celebrate the reopening in style, there is a unique opening party in Restaurant Albert on the fifth floor of KBR with a breathtaking view across Brussels and an eclectic DJ set that will bring the polyphonic vibes of the city to life.
Lectures by experts, such as musicologists and historians, will illuminate the rich traditions of polyphony and its impact on music history. The Brussels’ poets’ collective Speakeasy will provide poetic intermezzos, inspired by polyphony, both in the museum and on the Mont des Arts. A performance by the YOUYOU group will offer visitors the chance to become part of a unique and contemporary sound experience.
For families and curious music lovers, there will be interactive workshops, including sessions for adults about creating polyphony, and musical workshops for families, during which young and old sing and play together. The 16th-century Nassau chapel will be used for concerts featuring famous ensembles with contemporary interpretations of ancient polyphony.
