New and emerging filmmakers present their first or second films, making a significant impact on the future of cinema.
A shy young woman, named Eva, is given the task of recording the sound effects for a commercial featuring a horse. Empowered by a horsetail growing out of her body, she lures a botanist into an affair, through a game of submission. Piaffe (an equestrian term for a trot in place or nearly in place) gives the audience a chance to look with their bodies and touch with their eyes and to embark in a visceral journey into control, gender, and artifice.
Born in Tel Aviv, Ann Oren is a visual artist and filmmaker. She studied Film (BA) and Fine Arts (MA) at The School of Visual Arts, NY. Her artistic focus gradually shifted from video art and installations to cinema. She directed Passage in 2020, a 16mm short film that serves as a prequel to Piaffe, which premiered in Oberhausen Short Film Festival, and won many awards.
On the screening of the 18h of Oct., Raïssa Yowali, film critic, and Marlena von Wedel, art curator and cultural programmer at Goethe-Institut Brussels, will lead a discussion on the film at the end of the screening on 18th October. The conversation will be in english.
