If jazz guru Fred Hersch called you one of the best pianists in the world, we’d forgive you for blushing. But Sullivan Fortner has suffered no shortage of compliments and prizes over the last ten years. The Grammy Award-winning artist is among the latest in the long line of improvisers from his home city of New Orleans. Like them, he is a master of timing who embraces many of the styles that the rich history of jazz has produced. His post-bop often takes shape in small ensembles with big ambitions. You may have seen him at Bozar alongside Cécile McLorin Salvant, but in 2025 he will be presenting both a new trio and a new album to be released on ArtWorks Records / Pias. With the emotion that each note can hold falling upon eager ears, we can’t wait for Fortner to come back to Bozar.
