Russian star soprano Julia Lezhneva, renowned for her clear, angelic voice and impeccable technique, portrays two women abandoned by their lovers. Haydn composed his Scena de Berenice as a showcase for the legendary singer Brigida Giorgi Banti. Around the same time, Beethoven – then at the beginning of his career unlike Haydn – wrote the concert aria Ah! perfido.
The undisputed highlight of Mozart’s purely symphonic music is his Forty-First Symphony, which quickly earned the nickname Jupiter because of its powerful, grand themes. The final movement of this work achieves a masterful union between a baroque five-voice fugue and the gallant classical style.
