Collections of the Public Social Welfare Centre

The administrative offices of the Brussels Public Social Welfare Centre house a beautiful art collection: sculptures from Brabant, Brussels tapestries or paintings by ancient masters. Most were bequeathed to charitable institutions in Brussels or acquired by them, generally to decorate their chapels and main rooms. At the end of the 18^th century, these institutions were centralized into a single public institution and their assets brought together. As well as works of art, the collections contain medical equipment and stories of hospital life and assistance to the poor.
