To mark the release of Pablo Larrain’s Maria, La Monnaie is teaming up with Cinéma Galeries for an exceptional preview screening celebrating the legacy of Maria Callas. The film offers a visual anthology of the legendary singer through an intimate portrait where artistic glory mingles with personal tragedy.
Throughout her career, La Divina sang on the world’s most prestigious opera stages, including La Monnaie, where she gave a gala concert on 14 July 1959. To introduce this preview screening, musicologist Pieter Mannaerts will explore this memorable moment in Belgian music history, as well as the cultural legacy of Maria Callas and the links between opera and cinema.
