How does space affect our physical, psychological, and emotional state? Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine will be at Bozar to discuss this with you. In their latest book, the artist-filmmaker duo — who have been active on the international architectural scene for over fifteen years as artists, filmmakers, producers, and publishers — explores this question through the dynamic and personal format of conversations with twelve renowned architects (Tatiana Bilbao, Terunobu Fujimori, Jacques Herzog, Anne Holtrop, Junya Ishigami, Bijoy Jain, Ryue Nishizawa, Juhani Pallasmaa, Boonserm Premthada, Smiljan Radic, Kazuyo Sejima, Álvaro Siza), for whom perception and sensoriality play a central role in their work. The Emotional Power of Space gathers stories of sensitivity that reveal the intuitive and irrational forces at play in our relationship with space.
Bêka & Lemoine’s presence at Bozar is no coincidence… They are part of the exhibition Rotor. Entangled Matter, through which the Brussels-based collective Rotor critically examines the construction economy. Their involvement at the Palais is particularly significant this 24’-25’ season, which we are dedicating to the strength of artistic duos.
The discussion will be moderated by Iwan Strauven, professor at ULB and curator at the Centre for Fine Arts.
Following the event, Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine will sign their book The Emotional Power of Space. Copies will be available for purchase that evening, as well as at the Bozar Bookshop, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
