British-Libyan writer Hisham Matar’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Return has met with widespread acclaim. At Bozar, he will present his latest novel, My Friends, a deeply personal and reflective work exploring the impact of the Libyan uprising against Gaddafi. Matar explores the power of friendship and the indelible impact of violence. The novel follows Khaled, a Libyan in London, and his childhood friends Mustafa and Hosam, who face the aftermath of a 1984 demonstration against Gaddafi. The revolution in their homeland has set their lives, already shaped by personal and political events, on a new knife-edge.
Hisham Matar, who was born in New York and raised in various countries, is a vocal critic of repressive regimes in the Middle East. His incisive perspectives and acclaimed novels are a seamless blend of the personal and the political.
