Meet the Writer: Stefan Hertmans

  • Others

Is there such a thing as friendship grief, like there is lovesickness? That is the central question in DIUS, the new major novel by Stefan Hertmans, which he will present at Bozar. DIUS tells the story of an unconditional friendship between a student, Dius, and his teacher. What binds them is their desire to live in another time – the space of the polders, the sublime painting, the beauty that is lost. With DIUS, Stefan Hertmans tells the irresistible life story of an unfashionable artistic soul, in the grand tradition of the old painters’ biographies.
Sarah Vankersschaever, director of De Standaard der Letteren, gives the introduction. Chantal Pattyn, head of the Klara network, then interviews the author.
