The museum regularly enriches to its collections through generous donations from the people of Brussels. Through its active acquisition policy, it brings together objects documenting and celebrating the diversity of this cosmopolitan city, in which people from all over the world live together and create tomorrow’s history. Following our call for donations launched in 2024, we assembled a mosaic of stories and many objects full of meaning.
These varied contributions reveal both intimate and universal aspects of the migration flows that have shaped Brussels: a Swiss coffee service, tools from a Russian typesetting workshop, a 100PAP craft beer symbolizing social inclusion, a bronze sculpture of the dog Zinneke, or even a Polaroid camera that belonging to Chantal Akerman, an iconic figure from the Brussels film sector.
The exhibition displays a selection of these personal objects. These pieces imbued with emotion and resilience give rise to a picture of contemporary Brussels: a city shaped by its inhabitants and their multiple origins; a global city.
